I think he's close to the mark. Here in the UK we've generally been closer to the US than to europe, but Bush has done a lot of damage to this relationship. Blair's support for Bush in Iraq is deeply unpopular, and our presence in Iraq is likely to be one of the big issues in the forthcoming general election.
My feeling is that the Bush administration has an unconscious notion that as they are the biggest they don't have to understand what anybody else wants/thinks/feels. Here Bush is universally ridiculed, and unfortunately the rest of the nation tends to be tarred with that same brush.
It seems to us that those parts of the US that are actually aware of a world outside the borders went for Kerry, where those areas where 'abroad' is at least a thousand miles away voted mainly for Bush.
