well, there was this one time about a week ago.
I play music on Friday & Saturday nights at a Greek restaurant. The music is mostly mp3 files* from my computer, and the vast majority of it is Greek music, with some Middle Eastern stuff for the belly dancer when she performs. And when someone has a birthday, I have a collection of birthday-related clips that I can mix & match for the occassion.
So, this past weekend, there were a pair of elderly ladies sitting together at a table, and I was told that one of them is celebrating her birthday. So I included a clip of Paul Anka's "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen" in the mix, and said into the microphone, "You are sixteen, right?"
Nothing spectacular, but I thought it was a nice gesture--at least I intended it to be. :>
* Once in a while I do get to play live music, when our bouzouki player shows up. I play dumbek, drum set, and guitar. |
