In my experience, and in my personal opinion, people in the UK here seem to treat the US with markedly more disdain than ever before - certainly, nobody I know could believe that Bush got re-elected. I don't think humiliation might necessarily be the best way forward, though. Anyway, my views on how the US is seen from abroad seemed to annoy some people the other day, so I'll quit right there!
As for his view of the financial markets being totally unrelated to underlying industry, I couldn't agree more. Dutch tulip market, anyone?
