#1 A negative sterteotype imposed onto the person in question is an insult. That makes the receiver feel bad. A positive stereotype imposed is a praise. That makes the receiver feel good. So a positive stereotype is definitely better than a negative one.
#2 Stereotypes are pointless. Even if they fit the everage [insert group here], which they often don't, they most probably won't fit the person in question. So if you come up with a stereotype, you're basically making a fool of yourself, which might embarrass the receiver, too. Which makes her feel bad.
So, depending on the situation, a positive stereotype is embarrassing to yourself (which might be OK) and either flattering or embarrassing to the receiver. |
