I dunno about a standing ovation, but I certainly would have had more respect for him. And I think that such an indescretion didn't hamper his ability to be effective - but the resulting bruhaha and ugliness because he didn't tell the truth DID hamper his ability. I just wish ONE politician would stand up and tell the truth - or say something like "yes, I voted for it. But now that I know more, I have changed my mind." - Or take a similar stand based on ethics/morality/honor. I personally think that people would respect that, rather than see it as a sign of weakness. It bums me out that you don't really see that from any politicians - on either side of the aisle.
