Why should you be *paying* for the priviledge? Shouldn't it be CHEAPER to catch the bus than to drive?
I know it's probably not, here (Australia) it's cheaper to keep a car than bus/train everywhere. And MUCH easier to get around.
It just seems like entirely the wrong way to do it.
Get a clue, governments. Make public transport CHEAP, CONVENIENT, and SAFE and I'll happily sit next to the headbanger. I'll get to meet new & interesting people, and I won't have to waste an extra hour of my life sitting at a bus stop, or adding to the polution in the city.
It's certainly easier to add more busses to the roads than add more roads for all the cars we have here.
I'm just annoyed that there is a train station five minutes walk from my house. I want to catch the train to work. I want to save the environment, the hassle of traffic and driving, and the polution. But I don't want to pay so much, nor plan to be at work half an hour early to reliably know I'll be on time.
Maybe I've just got a skewed perspective because the traffic is pretty terrible in Sydney. (although I hear some American cities, and many European cities have it worse)
