Considering the thread about Deep Throat, and by Peace_man2005-02-08 12:03:09

If I were POTUS, I would do things differently. by Peace_man 2005-02-08 16:41:03
Otherwise, how do you expect me to personally provide solutions?

As for the war in Iraq, when George Bush had world opinion on his side right after 9/11 he had a glorious opportunity to strengthen the UN's ability to do something about repressive regimes, or regimes that supports known terrorists. What he should have done is support the UN in enforcing the existing human rights resolutions, or specified sanctions up to and including armed incursion for regimes that could be shown to support known criminals - something like a beefed up version of the prisoner transfer protocol that is already in exsistence.

Instead he chose to act unilaterally and in effect make the UN lose what authority it had.

If he could have attacked Iraq with full grounding in International law, and with support from the UN, he would have made a huge step towards eventually securing world peace through co-operation between all countries - through respect for a single body of law agreed on by all nations.

He chose the way of anarchy rather than the way of law. And thus created a precedent for any country attacking any other for little or no reason. He showed himself to be no better than Saddam when Iraq attacked Kuwait. Little or no justification.
