language. 'Make love' means having sex, which does not have much to do with love. This is why the phrase 'make love, not war' is such an evocative one - it shows a dichotomy on two different levels. First, the dichotomy between the concepts of love and war - total opposites. Next, the jarring discrepancy between 'make war' which is unequivocal and easily understood, and 'make love' which is a contradiction in itself, because love is not something you can make. Or am I being too complex for you?
