. . . out of a layoff, by moving almost immediately into another
job, and collecting several months' severance pay, on top of it.
Granted, they took "volunteers", in at least one of those cases,
and some of these people lined up their next position between
the announcement of an impending layoff, and the cutoff date for
"signing up"; but shouldn't that be *expected* to happen. Seems
mostly like a good way for a company to get rid of its best and
its brightest--which is exactly what happened, in the cases that
I witnessed.
Of course, there were also others who *needed* to be gone, but
they, obviously, didn't "volunteer".
