and perhaps I could have worded that better. Consider it evidence of my frustration at Sweetheart's responses in this thread - there's only so many times I can read "I'm entitled to my opinion" as a justification before annoyance sets in.
For the record, I have debated subjects on here for many years and have found it extremely useful in evaluating my opinions. By having my opinions challenged I've been able to determine those which stand up to scrutiny and those which failed. The opinions that I've been unable to support have been either adapted or dropped, those which can be supported have been reinforced. That is a process though, which requires you to actually examine your opinions critically and honestly, and to concede when flaws are found. Heated debates can be very useful, but only if you're willing to take your fingers out of your ears and listen to the arguments.
Regarding your questions though, the only person who can decide what is "fact" and what is "logical" is yourself. The only way to do that is to actually absorb the contrasting arguments, something that will never happen if you continue to dismiss those you disagree with out of hand. |
