He took it pretty well although he's convinced that he's the one that got the sack because the other guy has kids. Not so. The other guy is motivated, willing to be trained and doesn't skip conferences and then lie about it afterwards. Like I said, he needed to go sooner but when he was pulling most of his stunts, I wasn't the boss. Actually, 90% of the reason that I was upset about this before was because I was dreading having a) a bawling and upset man on my hands or b) a violently upset man. Thanks for the hugs and support everyone!
