We're not talking child abuse. A few reasonalbly forceful swats on a child's (naturally padded) back-side to, in the words of my father "canalize the pathways of the brain by the application of pain" is a very effective means of teaching. Perfect example: ever touch a hot stove as a kid? Learned that lesson real fast, dincha??
