The article states: "A former CIA official..." Remember that after the Congressional Hearings on the CIA screwups there was a purge at the CIA and many "comfortable" agents were put out on their a**es for lousy work.

Now if it was the CIA or State Department officially confirming this it'd be news now it's just more speculation, bad blood being spilled.
