It never had a chance. I got to fire a Garand once. Very nice. A friend's father had one that he'd kept in the basement for years. He also had some old armour piercing rounds for it. At least that's what he said the red paint meant. We took it a nearby army base and asked to use the range. A guy gave a quick inspection to the rifle and ammo and let us have fun. In hindsight, I'm glad nothing blew up on us. It was a fun afternoon.
