the lousy level of physics education is. "Tension" fits scalar electric potential (actually, a difference of two of those) no more than voltage. When I teach this I usually compare voltage with height, electric current with water current and electric resistance with a water stream width/depth (resistivity would be like viscosity, but this particular analogy doesn't seem to work that well).
