                79 days by lurker69 2005-02-08 05:24:48
He died in the battle of Trafalgar on his ship 1805-10-21 around a quarter past 1 PM. To preserve him he wa not stashed in a barrel of salt, what happened to famous persons before (e.g. Barbarossa), but was preserved in a barrel of brandy (and not rum as some sources say).
He was brought to Greenwitch Hospital, wher he was lying in state for some time, passed on to Westminster on a barge Jan, 8th and finally set aside in St. Pauls January 9th.
Hence (if I summed up correctly) 79 days.

Next (sailing) question: Usually ships note backbord/starboard with green/red (lights). Who defined this and why this way?
