Every organism has needs that are basic to its survival. For mammals, needs include air, water and food. For plants, needs include air, water and sunlight. Without those, the organism dies. Therefore, those things constitute needs.
We often convert our needs into wants. Yes, you need food to survive, but you can survive on gruel. You do not need a sirloin steak; you want a sirloin steak.
Sex is a want, pure and simple. You do not need sex for your own survival. You can subsist for decades on masturbation alone. Sex is only a need when you look one level up beyond the individual to the species. Unfortunately, humans breed worse than rats so anyone looking to dispense with sex for procreation is doing the planet a favor.
Sex should be for recreation not procreation in my opinion. |
