i need to know how to:
* make my bios view SATA as something other than IDE
* make it look for a SATA hard disk
* make it not look for an IDE boot disk, EVER.
backstory: when i plug an IDE hard drive into the secondary IDE cord, even as a slave, the machine does not boot. my running theory is that the bios is looking for the first IDE hdd it can find for booting, and that the actual physical IDE drives are found before the SATA drive, which it has been told to treat like an IDE drive.
(only problem with the theory is that after not finding a boot record on the IDE drive, i'd think it'd try to find another ide drive rather than say "oh well, not working. let's try something else.")
that sound about right? |
