Contact him OUTSIDE his AP-compromised machine/network and let him know that you stumbled across his open AP. If he refuses to do anything about it, let the black hats get him. Putting a note within his machine might scare him to the point of adding security, but then you would be the "black hat" in his eyes and could possibly be in legal trouble. In short, survival of the smartest.
