You might get charged $85 an hour but the Electrician only sees about 20% of that. You have to figure in expenses, rent for the shop, vehicles, tools, etc etc etc. Union Electricians can do well, IF they're working. However, they also pay dues. The interesting thing is if you look at what an Electrician made in the 50's and adjust for inflation. Electricians have actually taken a HUGE pay cut compared to what they were paid 50 years ago.
