FWIW, a friend near Edson bought a quarter section for considerably less than that.

We settled on 5 acres, though I would have much preferred 40 or so (I grew up on 1600 acres). 5 will at least give me space to enjoy it and have a garden and some animals. Not quite enough for growing all the food we will need, but still reasonable.
