What would happen if I were to join the Army right by PsychoI3oy2005-01-27 09:57:22
  Lemme start with a explanation. by pSYCHOi3OY 2005-01-27 11:56:17
I purposely made the TLP short and to the point and posted it right before my lunch break. Call it a troll if you will, but I'm back now.

I do not have any serious intention of joining the military right now. The closest I would consider would be USCG reserves, because I've always had an interest in the Coast Guard. In high school I was in AFJROTC for a summer and freshman year, and the SF Bay Area is fresh out of Air Force bases (even though I grew up in the same town as Hamilton AFB and driving distance of Travis) so we spent a lot of time at Coast Guard facilities.

I have, however, seriously considered it in the past. I met with an Army recruiter after graduating high school in 99 and took the ASVAB and was told that I pretty much had my choice of MOS. I wanted to be an Apache pilot and the recruiter said the best way to get there was to start with hilo maintenance. The only reason I didn't join was that I was considered overweight by the Army (and by anyone with eyes, really) and wouldn't pass the physical because of it.

All that being said, if we weren't in a wartime situation right now, I might consider it more seriously. My mom's father is a WWII veteran (he joined the Coast Guard in August of 1945 and spent most of his duty with them on Kauai learning how to surf) and my dad's dad was a Vietnam veteran in the Air Force. My dad's brother was in the Army for a while, and is now National Guard and in Iraq (after spending a year in Bosnia and getting all of 3 months of a break with his family). I have always had a deep respect for this country and the principles it was built on, and defending it from threats would be a great honor.
