I avoided your "child" analogy because it complicates a very simple issue: who has the right to determine what is done with x?

If someone else owns a wireless network I can access, unless it's explicitly clear that I'm allowed to use it, I assume that I am not. It's not my wireless network.

Making the assumption that it's okay to use somebody else's equipment and/or bandwidth just because you can is, IMO, selfish and reprehensible.
