The Golden Boys by WakkoWarner 2006-11-19 12:55:59
The National Guard members from the 2nd/222nd Field Artillery stationed in Cedar City, St George, Beaver and Richfield Utah are all on their way to a few months of training and then off to Iraq. The unit is nick named "The Golden Boys" and is fondly referred to as "The Triple Deuce" by the folks in this area.

The 222nd is considered to be one of the best Artillery units in the nation and was one of the first units to be certified on the awesome 155MM Self Propelled ‘Paladin’ Howitzer. Click here for the story.

I called the Deuce home before I went full time Army, and I still know several of the people in the unit. My father was full time in the unit for 24 years until he moved to Corp level. Just like many of the other units across the country these folks come from small towns and tight-knit communities. They are good people and I know they will do their best to improve the situation over there.

I will be praying for their safe journey and return home, and although it is tough to go to war I know that they are well trained, disciplined and prepared to serve. So here is to the Golden Boys, God Speed.
