I'm not taking this as any kind of attack on me or my faith, and I did find the link interesting. I've actually known some people of that faith.
The principles outlined in the introduction sound very much in line with how I perceive God and faith, and from what I understand of Bahá'í, I have a high regard for it. However, there is one aspect to Christianity in which I do believe and which is not an aspect of Bahá'í. That is the belief in Jesus as Christ. I know it is difficult for non-Christians to understand this, but that is what we believe.
Where I differ from some others in my faith is in my attempt to understand it in a more holistic context. One issue that has had a lot of attention on this board is when people say that homosexuality is a sin, and they use this as an excuse to judge and persecute those who are homosexual. They see what they perceive as one sin and readily answer it with other sins. And it makes me stand back and wonder, "Have you read your Bible, or have you just used it as a coffee table book?"
Using the Bible to justify any sort of persecution is the height of hypocrisy. Unfortunately, it's been a common practice. :'( And it's that form of false, warped Christianity that is not like me.
But yeah, other than the difference of believing in Jesus as Christ, Bahá'í sounds pretty cool. |
