a concentration of our society (not a genome) and that concentration will contain both the best and worst we can offer. If rapes were generally rare in this country, you could also count on rapists being scarce in the military. Unfortunately, they're not all that rare.

Demonizing the enemy the way the military customarily does exacerbates the situation. Further exacerbating the problem is that the highest levels of government didn't have strict orders against such actions. In fact, the Bush Administration took great pains to find loopholes around the Geneva Conventions.

Does allowing rapes and torture show the USA in the best light? If someone invaded your country, raped and tortured your neighbors and loved ones, would you believe them if they told you they were offering you freedom?
