I celebrated with lots of too much alcohol and went to laugh at the next bunch of fools just arriving :)
If you're ever in Germany and a bunch of drunken guys stumble by shouting "Ausscheider", well, that's about it :)
Though now that they pretty much only take people that actually want to go serve, I suppose there won't be that many of them...

Germany having (more or less)mandatory 10 month army or 12 months civil service (well, for guys anyway)... First 2 months you get basic training and then 8 months doing whatever... (Unless you chose to serve longer).

Well, I actually got something out of military service... I learned which end of the barrel the bullets come out of, I learned how to clean stuff, I learned to cook some, I learned to toke some and I have a letter of recommendation for having been a waiter...
Oh yeah, I also learned that the chain of command isn't what's important. Important is connections. Like you give the guys on guard some coffee when they come by on patrol in the night, and they'll cut you some slack with other stuff.
Or, when camping out, the medic guy wants some food stuff, well, you can trade for some supplies, like anti-mosquito oil and stuff...

All in all, not so bad, I guess :)
