getting easy duty because the corpsman on his first ship had it made in the shade. He figured he'd have a cushy job as a p*cker checker until he checked off the wrong box on a form that gave him a measly $10 more a month in pay and ended up with the Marines. After that, he understood that the acronym Never Again Volunteer Yourself should have been his motto.
