That if anyone lives a good and just life it will show through their actions. Their example is self evident; they don't need to declare anything.
I also believe that the most important part about being "religious" in any way is how you practice your religion in private, what you believe in your heart. Church is good for learning and spiritual growth (and praticing patience if you teach children :), it is not for showing all the other folks that you are a worthy member of that faith. If you have to tell everyone you're a good person and a good Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, whatever, you probably need to work on that :)
