I know there was a story of when by hadji 2005-01-16 22:24:41
Jesus was fasting in the dessert, and Satan told him to throw himself off the cliff, because it was written that the angels would save him, or something like that. And His answer was, that it was also written that one should not test God.

Meaning that one should not be frivolous with God's power and promises. If one asks for a bicycle when one is in dire need of transportation, something will happen to get someone from point A to point B.

My mom told me a story about a man who was in a shipwreck and was floating in the middle of the ocean. He prayed to God to save him so he would drown or be eaten by sharks, starve, etc.

A helicopter came by and dropped a line for the guy. The guy said, "No thanks, God will save me." A little later, another boat came by and threw him a life preserver. He said, "No thanks, God will save me." Another boat came by and saw the guy, but he waved them on as well, saying, "Don't worry, God will save me."

When the guy finally died, he asked, "God, I prayed for help. Why didn't you save me?"

God said, "I sent you a helicopter and two boats, what more did you want?"
