regarding this:
"I would venture a guess that many people are Christian who don't realize it. And by that, I mean their hearts are filled with humility and love for their fellow man, and their actions reflect this. Even if they don't believe in God or Christ, they are still doing what Christ would want them to do, and in my Christian belief, I believe that God makes note of that."
I consider myself to be an atheist. That is not the point here. I have asked people who consider themselves to be Christian if I will go to their Hell as a result of my lack of belief and their reply was basically "yes". This clearly conflicts at least somewhat with the second statement above. God makes note of these people but they go to Hell anyway?
I am not trying to pit your beliefs against theirs, however I would be interested to know your stance on this.
Secondly, and on an unrelated note:
I have friends who are Christian. I generally don't make a point of mentioning the fact that I am an atheist. This is not because I am ashamed or anything of the sort. However, I will admit that it scares me a little. Will these people, once I reveal the fact to them start to distance themselves from me? I feel that I should not need to utter that internal sigh of relief when it's accepted. I have no reason to be scared etc. due to my beliefs, however other's reactions to them do potentially scare me. Someone who is a good friend I would rather not lose due to such a thing as that. Do you have any thoughts on this? |
