These people who claim to be Christian, but do evil things, do not truly have Christ in their hearts. And despite their claims, despite their insistance, despite anything they say, they are not Christians.

Well stated, but here's where it all falls down. Non-Christians often have little or no way of telling who is or isn't Christian. They (me included) simply go on what people claim about their religious beliefs, and then wrongly judge an entire religion based on those people's actions.

Although Jerry Falwell certainly isn't someone I could have a civil dinner conversation with, he most certainly telegraphs that he is a Christian and an exemplary one at that. I don't believe he's a reflection of true Christian values, but lots of people do -- all from simply not knowing better.
