| Even an atheist has no reason to attack the basic, human principles of Christianity, and in fact many of them don't. Which is good.
I think what happens is that a lot of people see how Christianity has, over the ages, been used to control, repress and manipulate the masses, globally and locally. Anyone with any sort of intelligence can see that Christianity by itself isn't deserving of loathing -- it's the people who corrupt it and twist it to serve their own agendas that deserve the negativity.
But what happens, clearly, is that people get so caught up in their disgust for the actions of many (self-styled) Christians that they lump all of Christianity into the same rather ugly pigeon-hole. This isn't right, or just; it's simply (and sadly) human nature. |
