I've seen quite a regular bit of by hadji2005-01-16 20:15:27
I think it's the Conversion Thing by Dazed 2005-01-16 20:24:13
I think that might explain many people's reaction to Christianity as a whole (or Americans, as a whole, or Islam, as a whole). These groups, two officially, one unofficially, have a doctrine of conversion. Regarding the religions' offical doctrine of conversion - that's what makes people feel threatened, especially of the extremists, which of course leads to negativity. Essentially, it is anti-conversion to ridicule something. Kinda like the bogart in Harry Potter ... and can you tell what I've been watching and reading for the past week? Man, I need a life! :)

Anyhow, Canadians have no such doctrine (or at least, no effective way to pursue such a doctrine) and therefore are not ridiculed (at least, not in the same way or for the same reasons).

Feel free to test this theory and come back to me on it. Note: it's a theory, which, so far in my haphazard application of it, seems to hold true thus far. I'm sure it will be shortly proven false, but that's fine, too.
