An irrational concept is a belief in something that has no evidence. This is not always a bad thing.
If I have an irrational belief in God that motivates me to treat my fellow man with love and respect, is that irrational belief a harmful one? What negative effects does it have?
Yes, many irrational beliefs have a large potential to be harmful, but not all. When you say religions are based on irrational concepts, that is true by definition. But that does discount any spiritual truths they may hold.
