I did that with my desktop (as said in the previous post) but my dad got mad at me because I didn't keep the .reg file from the windows partition. and well, I tried using some live cd's on the laptop, I also tried to installmandrake linux under vmware, but that didn't work either. the hardware just isn't compatible
