That was REALLY weird... by dodrian 2005-01-16 07:25:23
I set my laptop down to go get some coke and locked the screen with the screensaver lock (I was reading some personal emails and don't trust my family to not look :-)) and when I came back to it the screen was flashing between two different instances of the screensaver.

My first thought was not very FYOSS, about the fact my logic board has been replaced TWICE before and I would be really, _really_ upset if it had to happen again.

I tried to take my computer out of the screensaver, and got a password box (flashing a bit), but my first three attemts to enter my password failed, I then realized it was because there were two different password boxes and was flashing between them, so half of the characters were in one box and half in the other.

By watching the appearance of the dots in the password box carefully (some dots were solid & therefore the characters had been entered in both boxes, and others were flashing and only in one box) I managed to unlock one of the screensavers, opon which the screen stopped flashing and I unlocked the screen again to return to my emails. In my 5+ years of using computers (yes, I'm a n00b ;)) I've never seen anything like that.

To put a long story short I solved the problem without a restart, thus saving my 24:23:14 uptime :-)
