I have a friend who I have really liked in the past. About 6 months ago though they dropped off the face of the earth and refused to respond to emails, ICQs, phone calls. So for an upcoming get-together I didn't include this person on the recipient list of an email, feeling pretty justified that they weren't going to respond or come to the get-together anyway.
Now I get a sarcastic email from that person, who is annoyed that they didn't get an invite. Pi**es me off, because I went to repeated efforts to connect with the person only to be ignored, and now they are complaining that I didn't continue to bust my ass to chase them down.
Note to people who do this sort of thing: I realized long ago that friendship goes both ways. You've got to give a little to get a lot. Even an occasional "Sorry, I can't come, but have fun!" email would have kept me interested and involved enough to continue making the invites. I'm not going to go to that effort if all the effort is one-sided.
Nice New Year's present, but I'm going to try and let go my annoyance and have fun anyway.
