            I disagree with point #1... by niwikki 2004-12-30 14:30:35
I'm nearly done reading the Two Towers, and it has seemed to me throughout this book that the ring isn't even there. Sure it's the reason for everything, but it's rarely mentioned and never used (and nobody seems tempted to use it).

In the movie, they were constantly showing us the ring -- showing it hanging on the chain from Frodo's neck, showing Frodo tempted to use it, showing other people tempted to steal it... it was constantly in the forefront.

While reading these books after watching the movies, I've been a bit disappointed that the ring wasn't as major of a character in the books as it was in the movies, and I even found myself wondering how Peter Jackson got the idea to use the ring as a character so often when it wasn't done that way in the books.

Am I just completely missing it in the books because it's taking me so long to read them?
