I didn't read the books before I saw the films by niwikki 2004-12-30 14:16:52
and I loved the films. I thought there was adequate character development to understand the film, though the film seemed more focused on the overarching story than the characters (which is a legitimate purpose for films -- not all films are character studies). And by the end of the second movie, I was able to tell Merry & Pippin apart. ;)
