It wasn't, perhaps, quite as good - it relied heavily on effects, but then so did the first (stop-motion!) and the second (ground-breaking CGI). In my opinion, the ending of 3 redeemed it almost entirely. It took guts to do that, besides resolving the paradox thingy.
