SQOTD: Second Question of the Day by retiqlum22004-12-30 01:51:30
is has nothing to do with 'alpha male' by alphascorpii 2004-12-30 07:23:09
or anything like that. It's the Latin name of a class M giant star commonly known as Antares.
Why I picked it? Long story. I was driving somewhere with my car around five years ago and there was a broadcast in the radio about that star.
I don't remeber it exactly, but they said something along the lines of: "The life of a class M giant star is intensive (since it's so bright) but short."
I found that kind of fitting. Also later I found out that α scorpii is also the primary star in the scorpio contellation. Which fits as well since I am a scorpio.
So I stuck with that name. I didn't use Antares, sine it's too popular. Of course there are thousands of alphascorpiis by now but I don't really mind.
I like to think it saves me a last rest on anonymity (that was another alphascorpii, really!)
The only one that bugs me is one alphascorpii who shares some characteristics with me (country, employer, gender) and who is a (dramatically unsuccessful) cosplayer.
I don't really like being mistaken for that one.
