install xp on another system that uses the same proccessor using the hard drive in your new computer once you verified install put the hard drive into new computer and see if it boots up i know this seems like a crazy idea but i have a few laptops lying around (mostly compaq's from the glory days of dos)....i had to resort to this...and it worked :-p the only thing is...you might want to check ALL your hardware and load the drivers onto the hard drive too, so that when you go into windows you can give it the new stuff when device manager asks for it
