...When installing Windoze. Be as minimal as possible, I havn't had neally as many poblems with XP/2000 (Their installers are very similar) but things just tend to go smother if addidional components are installed AFTER the OS is loaded.
I also suggest re-seating everything RAM,Graphics card etc.
Also make sure the Hard Drive is in good working order, I had a stuffed up drive, it would get past the first part of the install, but would error out when it got to the second part.
It's possibly a bad hardware component, if you have multiple sticks of RAM, take everyone out but one, if you still have the problem exchange that one for another one (It's unlikly all RAM sticks are bad if you have more than one)
I doubt its the graphics card, but re-seat it, then try a known working one.
Get a floppy drive, they are cheap, don't take up much room, and flashing BIOS and upgrading firmware on may devics still seems to rely on using floppies (most of the time you can get away with using CD's enmulating a floppy drive now though, but I just find it easier having a floppy dive handy)
Seperate your Hard Drive and CD-ROM on different IDE cables. While you shouldn't have too much problems with them on the same, the CD-ROM drive will only slow down your HDD.
Umm I can't think of anything else right now, but it sounds like bad hardware, and it could be anything so you need to do some trouble-shooting. |
