I sold guns for a while in the 80's, and things may have changed since then. In Virginia, at least, you cannot refuse to sell a weapon to someone unless they check one of the little boxes saying that they are insane, or a felon, etc. No other reason.
I did, however, break that rule by simply not having any guns in stock one day when two gentlemen of color, and I mean wearing colors, tried to buy a gun. What kind of gun? anything. They had no preference as long as it was a gun. 12ga, 30-06, 30-30, .22 Ruger, they really didn't care, they just wanted a gun. The cheaper the better.
So I walked back to the gun room and politely told them that we were out of whatever model they wished to purchase, and that the display models were not for sale. I made SEVEN trips to the back room to look for various guns. On trip #2 I told security, and just after trip #7 the police showed up.
Two uniformed officers browsing the fishing lures. :)
The two colors-wearing hat-backwards guys said out loud that they didn't care what kind of gun, that I should just bring out whatever I had in the back, the cheapest one! NOW!
Then they noticed the cops.
They left. :) heh!
There was no way in heck I was going to sell those two guys a gun. Profiling? Sure! Gang colors and gangland speech patterns? An "any gun will do" attitude?
No guns for you! |
