I've worked with Netgear, Microsoft, and Linksys routers. For all of them, resetting back to initial config was more than just hitting the reset button. For one of them, at least, you had to hold the reset button for 10 seconds after having turned it on while holding the button. And not too hard, a friend of mine messed up his router by trying so hard he broke the switch off the board.
