Sad news. :-( by hadji2004-12-21 17:40:04

Thanks everyone.
He really was a great guy, and I knew he was sick, but I had no idea that his passing would come this quickly. So it's still sinking in.

He lived in Canada, so there was a good amount of spatial distance between us. But whenever we'd visit, it was like we knew each other forever.

Last year, for Christmas, I went to visit another cousin who lives about an hour's drive from him. I flew in by plane, so I didn't have my own transportation.

He called while I was there, and said "So we won't be able to see you, huh?"

I said, "That's not true. You're more than welcome to come here."

So he came. That very night. My cousin screamed with joy because she had been in that house for a while, and he had never before visited her home.

And he was the kind of guy we ALL loved and respected. He started as a salesman at a car dealership with almost nothing in his pocket and worked his way up to a partnership.

The guy had money. Not millions, mind you, but he had money. And he was never, NEVER snooty about it. He never looked down on anyone. And he was never disappointed in anyone unless they refused to try their best at whatever they did. Didn't matter whether or not they failed, as long as they tried their best. Didn't matter whether they had rags or riches. All he needed to respect anyone else was to see in them a good character and integrity. And he was vigilant about setting those same standards for himself.
