end up being in vain. I don't believe the Iraqis are ready for a democracy. Government is part of culture. As the culture evolves the government will evolve. Iraq needs to get a government that will be strong, stable, and acceptable to most of the population. The US should be working to find an acceptable form of government, not forcing democracy on them.

I'm not sure that there won't be more violence before a stable government is formed. At some point the US will pull out. If the Iraqis don't feel like they were represented in the formation of the government, they are not going to feel like it represents them, and they will probably try to change it, the way they know how, thru violence. For the different groups to compromise, they may need to see how ugly it can get if they don't.
