I went through it from start to finish twice, and twice almost to finish.

When the instructions tell you stuff like don't delete that yet, or it's ok to delete this now, do so. DO SO.

I ended up completely horking my tools because I didn't delete the source and parms from the 1st iteration like it said to. It recompiled everything meant for the local unit as if it were still using the temporary OS (knoppix), so once knoppix was out of the picture, nothing ran. *sigh*

The second time thru I did the old rm -rf * in the wrong tree.

I whacked the new, live tree and not the old, defunct tree. I was still chrooted, you see...

But I got it to work - all the way thru, then whacked it and did it again. About 6 weeks work on it, all told, with all the iterations.
