Fish transportation issues by mortaine 2004-12-21 14:39:09
So, in preparation for the holiday, which will require me to be away from my desk from Wednesday evening until January 3rd, I planned to take my betta fish home today.

The only problem is that I'm also planning to stop at a store and pick up a holiday gift for my sweetie today.

The temperature outside is a balmy 63 degrees (F), and should be around 55 degrees (F) by 6 PM.

Unfortunately, this fish will likely die if he gets that cold. I don't have anyone with me in the car who could keep the car running while I go in to get this holiday gift.

I estimate it taking between 10 and 30 minutes, depending solely on the checkout line.

So.... I'm transporting this fella in a styrofoam cup with a lid. Should I just stick a straw in the lid (for visual effect) and go in, pretending it's my beverage from outside? Hopefully, they won't confiscate (I doubt they will), but if they try I might be able to talk them out of it.

Though that conversation could be fun, too, if I go with the straw idea.

"I'm sorry, miss. You'll have to finish your drink or toss it out."
"Um, it's not-- can I leave it up here and pick it up?"
"No, miss."
(opens the lid) "But see, it's my pet fish-- I didn't want to leave it outside..."
"Ma'am, we have a strict no pets policy..."

Oh, yeah. I can see this is just going to be a noodle of confusion.
